My name is Shannon and I am a blood bought, reborn, daughter of the Most High King.  I am sold out to Jesus Christ.

He is my everything…..

And I am His.

“Mighty River”  is a dedication to the call that the Lord has placed on my life to Uganda, Africa.  It is an unfolding  journey that my natural vocabulary cannot explain.

Several years ago, I reached a point in my life of absolute surrender.  My testimony is that of disappointment, disillusionment, abandonment, divorce, desparation, death, deliverance…..and having the hand of the Savior reach down and pluck me out of the muck and the mire.  When I realized that I couldn’t even wrap my brain around the portion of the love He has for me….I broke and told Him that I am all His.

I am amazed at the way He loves me.

He is my God, my Savior, my Father, my King, my Provider, my Healer, my Rock, my Sustainer, my Leader…

He is the cry of my heart….

And in the middle of my heart, He whispered one word….

“Uganda”

It is my desire to be His hands, His feet, His touch and His words to these beautiful people that sometimes look at me with the saddest face in the world.  The look of hopelessness.

I am called to bring hope.

I am the wife of John.  Perhaps the godliest man I have ever met in my entire life.  Together we desire to tell the good news of Jesus Christ.  Our hearts have the gates flung wide open to go wherever He says to go and do whatever He says to do.

I am a mom of three beautiful children who exhibit Christ in their own lives.  We pray for this nation….for healing to be released…..for hope to be restored.  And when I told them their momma was going over the ocean to serve the mommas and babies of Uganda this summer….they said, “Go”.

My first trip to Uganda was in the summer of 2011 with CURE International.  My team of 10 served in Mbale and Mbarara, Uganda for 17 days.  I will return to Uganda in the summer of 2012 to lead a team with CURE once again.  I count it a great honor to bring people from all over the world to “the pearl of Africa” for the very first time.

And I believe the pearl, the most precious part….is the people of Uganda.

My Ugandan friends named me “Tumusiime“….meaning “Let us praise Him!”

My Ugandan friends also taught me the sweetest words….”you are welcome“….not in response to “thank you“, but in response to, “may I sit here?”

My Ugandan friends also taught me that Christians greet each other with a hand shake, a hug and a phrase, “Praise the Lord!”

I believe in weeping enduring for the night, and joy coming in the morning.

I believe in the shadow of His wings.

I believe in tears….and wiping them away.

I believe in dancing like David danced.

I believe in miracles of healing.

I believe that deep cries out to deep and that language barriers can be crossed by our eyes.

I believe in Hope.  Restoration.  Deliverance.  Freedom.

I believe in carrying your cross.  Daily.

I believe in eagles….the friends that help you soar and do what He’s told you to do.

I believe in the fourth man in the fire.

I believe in buying “elephants”.

I believe in being called a “Mzungu” (white person) by giggling little black skinned bodies.

I believe in holding hands and marveling at the contrast in skin color.

I believe in touching those deemed “untouchable”.

I believe in dreams and visions.

I believe in the face of God.

I believe in the journey.

Yet, I believe in the pause button.

I believe that one person can change the world.

I believe in you not remembering my name….for I would much rather you see Him than me.

I see God in everything.  Literally.

And I believe this best describes my relationship with Him…..

“My will is not a place, but a condition.  Do not ask Me where and when but ask Me how.  You will discover blessing in every place, and any place, if your spirit is in tune with Me.  No place or time is more hallowed than another when you are truly in love with Me.  I direct every motion of your life, as the ocean bears a ship.  Your will and intelligence may be at the helm, but divine providence and sovereignty are stronger forces.  You can trust Me, knowing that any pressure I bring to bear upon your life is initiated by My love, and I will not do even this except as you are willing and desire.  Many a ship has sailed from port to port with no interference from Me, because Strong Will has been at the wheel.  Multitudes of pleasure crusies go merrily on their ways, untouched by the power of My hand.  But you have put your life into My keeping, and because you are depending on Me for guidance and direction, I shall give it.  Move on steadily, and know that the waters that carry you are the waters of My love and My kindness, and I will keep you on the right course.”
